Day 40!!!

I've hit the big 4-0 today, which is something I thought I would struggle to achieve. Obviously this isn't 40 different species, but it is 40 solid days of Blipping, most commitment I've shown to anything in years.

Anyway about todays photograph, dad and I popped down to RSPB Northward Hill for a brief walk, seeing as the weather was good. We started the walk with a brief stop at the bird feeders and quickly racked up 6 different species. Taking the green walk we hit double figures quickly and then passed 30 when we sat on the mound to check the pools.

The complete list:
  • Carrion Crow
  • Rook
  • Greenfinch
  • Goldfinch
  • Chaffinch
  • Blue Tit
  • Great Tit
  • Robin
  • Magpie
  • Dunnock

Day... 38!

Wow, day 38 already?! Where has the last month or so gone? It'll be the end of the month before I know it and I'll be back to freezing my tushy off watching Kent's warm up matches on the days I'm not working. First one is at Beckenham, bets are on for a Parakeet photo that week!

Birdwise, we have had 12 species in our garden today:
  • Goldfinch
  • Chaffinch
  • House Sparrow
  • Blue Tit
  • Wren
  • Dunnock
  • Starling
  • Wood Pigeon
  • Collared Dove
Tired this afternoon, I wanted a lie in but dragged myself up out of bed to go for a walk. Then I remembered that my monopod broke yesterday, and was informed (by the parentals) we wouldn't be going out for the day today, because we needed food and I needed to sort my monopod out. In the end however I took the top off of my horrible tripod and replaced the top on my monopod. Well done dad for figuring out that one.

So I have a fuctioning monopod, we have food in the house and we're off to either RSPB Dungeness, or maybe somewhere further if the weather is looking good tomorrow. Family discussion over sunday roast is needed to decide.

Day 31

Working all day on a sunday is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. It means early mornings and, on wet days like today, not much time to get my daily photo. The mornings are lighter, but after the clocks change we'll be back to dark mornings for a while, and the weather hasn't been the greatest the last few sundays, so I've been struggling to get a decent shot. However there's a pond, not far from my work, which always has some ducks of various species and even some geese and Moorhen. So for the next few sundays I at least know I'll have something to photograph!

Weather tomorrow shouldn't be too bad, so I'm hoping to drag my parents out somewhere for the day, perhaps down to Tudeley Wood in South Kent or Blean Woods near Canterbury.

Day 22

I am having a VERY lazy day, the first I've had in months. I only just got dressed, even though I need to mow the lawn and then find my blip for the day... I've got some summery tunes playing, there are loads of birds in the garden and I've got a bunch of choccie cupcakes to ice.. Oh well, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I'm in a good mood. I'll get round to everything I'm sure (in case anyone is panicking on my behalf, I have got a shot of a bird to blip if nothing presents itself).

Welcome

This is a very tired start to a new blog, which I should have started when I started Birding 365 on Blipfoto.

I'm currently bordering on dozing off, and I can barely remember much of this mornings walk down and RSPB Cliffe Pools, but I know I enjoyed it. This blog is intended to inspire people to visit my local areas, to record bird sightings, to keep a record of when the spring migrants arrive and then leave in the autumn, and finally a way for me to share the love and passion I have for birds, nature and preserving what's around us, no matter where we live.

My proudest achievement is the numerous bird species that now visit my garden, and the numbers in which they come to feed and breed. I love to wake up and hear the birds in the garden, and can't understand anyone who doesn't (no offence of course).

Tomorrow our car is going into the garage so no walk at either of my local RSPB reserves, but I'm sure I'll find something to blip and blog. Until then goodnight or good morning, depending upon which side of the globe you're on!
